+ Very distant shot of this common hawk, photographed in the high tundra (paramo) outside Quito. Aptly named, the species is unusually variable in appearance. Above is an adult pale- morph bird, as shown by the faintly barred white underparts. The brown with hints of rufous on the barely visible upperparts marks the bird as a female; a male would be gray above. |
