Common Black-hawk, Buteogallus anthracinus
We saw these handsome hawks frequently both on and around Carate Beach on the
Pacific Coast, and at Bosque del Cabo at the tip of the Osa Peninsula. They belong
to the Pacific Coast subspecies, which was formerly considered a separate species with
the names Mangrove Black-Hawk and Buteo subtilis.
