Boat-billed Heron, Cochlearius cochlearius
Boat-billed Herons stayed hiding in the mangroves toward the back of freshwater Pejeperro Lagoon, which is just behind Carate Beach. So we had to take to kayaks to get these pictures of an immature bird, above, and an adult, below, of this secretive species.
