Yellow-throated Warbler, Setophaga dominica

![]() My first chance to photograph this species, the southeastern close relative of Grace's Warbler of the southwest and a rare visitor to Northern and Central California, came in February and March of 2012 when this vagrant bird was spotted by Ron Thorn and Leonie Baskin at the much-visited Coyote Point Park on the shore of the bay south of San Francisco International Airport. The photos above and below were taken as the bird was foraging in eucalyptus trees, hence the sticky gum on its chin, detracting a bit from its handsome appearance. |

![]() Some years later, in April 2015, I paid a springtime visit to a regular nesting ground of this species, Shawnee Forest in southeastern Ohio, and was able to get the sharper picture below showing a male Yellow-throated Warbler in full breeding plumage. |
