Southern Lapwing, Vanellus chilensis

Southern Lapwing
The Southern Lapwing is a bird of striking appearance with its crest, black front, white underparts, pink legs and red eyes, and bronze shoulders. The species was long endemic to South America, but in recent years has expanded its range to the Caribbean and southern Central America, first Panama and most recently Costa Rica, where I photographed this bird on the Osa Peninsula.
