Snail Kite, Rostrhamus sociabilis
Snail Kites, pair, 3/25/08, Lake Toho, Kissimee, FL
Snail Kite, male, 3/26/08, Lake Toho, Kissimmee, FL
The rare and endangered Snail Kite lives almost entirely on apple snails; the best place to see them is at their communal nesting ground in the reeds on Lake Toho in Kissimmee, FL. And the best way to do that is under the guidance of the master of birds-in-flight photography, and the guru of the Snail Kite, Jim Neiger, who lives in Kissimmee. Thanks to Jim for making possible these pictures, taken during the 2008 nesting season.
