Smooth-billed Ani, Crotophaga ani

Smooth-billed Ani
Related to the cuckoos, anis perch on low bushes and fences; they follow cattle and
sometimes glean ticks from them. The Smooth-billed and Groove-billed Anis can be
hard to distinguish, especially when, as here, a Smooth-billed has rudimentary grooves
in the upper mandible, and lacks a pronounced hump there as well. I relied on our
experienced guide, who owns the property where we saw this bird, for the ID in
this case.
