Osprey, Pandion haliaetus
I've taken quite a few pictures of the spectacular fisher of birds, the Osprey, but most of my best ones came
one visit to Blue Cypress Lake in central Florida, March 25-26, 2015. Thanks to Susan Schermer for introducing
me to this fabulous photographic opportunity!
Ospreys were nesting all around the lake; here's one carrying nesting material.
And another one carrying food, a just-captured fish.
I took the picture above early in my bird photography days, June 2004, at Bodega Bay, north of San Francisco, one of a sequence of shots of this bird carrying the fish in and eating it. The whole sequence can be seen here.
Back to Blue Cypress Lake in 2015, and an Osprey feeding on a fish it had just captured.
A nesting pair.
Above and below, female parent carrying fish to nest and feeding young bird piece by piece. This was in summer of 2015 at a long-established Osprey nest near Monterey Bay in central California.
