Nelson's Sparrow, Ammodramus nelsoni
|
|
![]() Nelson's Sparrows are rare winterers in a few marshes around the SF Bay Area, including Palo Alto Baylands, and Arrowhead Marsh, Oakland, where this bird was photographed. They are secretive little creatures, mostly staying concealed in marsh grass; they are most likely to be seen fully exposed during winter high tides. These are distant and poorly lit shots of this little bird skulking at the edge of the marsh during the January full-moon high tide in 2012, and I decided to post them, despite the poor quality, my first photos of this elusive species. |
