Mountain Plover, Charadrius montanus

Mountain Plover
Mountain Plovers are not birds of the mountains, but rather are seen on dry, barren fields at any altitude.
When standing still, they look like clods of dirt; and when they move, it is usually in a flock at too
great a distance for a good photograph. This young bird was barely close enough for a barely adequate
photo, in a field close to the coast and nearly at sea level.
