Lark Buntings are rare in the Bay Area; their normal wintering grounds are in the border Southwest and Mexico. This one lingered for quite a while in the grassy slopes of Byxbee Park in bayside Palo Alto during the Fall of 2009, and gave local birders and photographers plenty of opportunities. The picture above, soon after the bird's discovery, was on a cloudy day; the one below, a week later, was in sunlight.
