Hooded Warbler, Setophaga citrina

Hooded Warbler
The strikingly patterned male warblers shown above and below were establishing their territories and singing when I visited
Shawnee State Forest in southeastern Ohio in April 2015.

Hooded Warblers are rare winter visitors to Central California, but it so happens one had visited Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz in January of that same year, and I had been able to get this, my first photograph of the species. The pictures show that there is little difference between breeding and non-breeding plumage in this species -- they are always spectacular.
