Pipilo chlorurus

![]() The Green-tailed Towhee is notable for its distinctive appearance, described by Birds of North America Online as "grayish underparts, green wings and tail, bright rufous cap, and bold white throat." These birds are fairly common throughout the dry areas of the American west, usually at altitude, but they are seen mostly when males sing from perches in the spring; otherwise they spend most of their time on the ground concealed by thick brush cover, where, like other towees, they forage by scratching the ground for seeds. |
