Green-crowned Woodnymph, Thalurania fannyi

Green-crowned Woodnymph
The male of this species had to be one of the most gorgeously colored hummingbirds we saw on the trip.

The South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Union recently unanimously voted to lump the Green-crowned Woodnymph with the more northerly Violet-crowned Woodnymph into the single species of Crowned Woodnymph, Thalurania colombica; this reversed a split only a couple of decades old. I've left the old name in place here for the time being.
