Green Violetear
The closely related and similar Sparkling Violetear has a more extensive violet patch, which curves around forming a chinstrap; it is also found mostly at higher altitudes. The ones shown above and below were photographed at Tandayapa, altitude 5000 feet, while my photographed Sparkling was in the outskirts of Quito, above 8000 feet. The flying bird above has fanned its tail feathers, showing their metallic blue-green color; it is photographed with flash, while the one below is in natural light.
