The Great Tit was the most
common songbird I saw in the trees of Clissold Park during the two
weeks of late December 2009; I visited the park almost daily while
staying in nearby Islington during a London winter vacation. I also saw
many Blue Tits, one Long-tailed Tit, but as far I as was able to tell,
no Coal Tits. These little birds, more colorful and melodious than our
North American chickadees, are one of the constant and delightful
features of parks and gardens in the UK. The male Great Tit, shown
above, has
brighter yellow underparts and a broader black chest strip than the
female, shown in the three photos below. |
