Field Sparrow, Spizella pusilla

Field Sparrow
Field Sparrows were singing constantly in and alongside a pasture at the house of a friend where we stayed in Rappahannock County, Virginia, May 2012, and they readily posed, offering me my first photos of this species, which is rarely found in California where I live. The pink bill and legs, coupled with a plain breast and prominant eye-ring, readily identify them, as does their song of four whistled notes followed by a trill.

This one obliged me in southeastern Ohio, on the edge of Appalachia, in April 2015.
