Ground-Dove, Columbina passerina
Plain gray female above, pinkish-washed male below, from the western subspecies of the Common Ground-Dove, found in Southern California, southern Arizona, and South Texas. In the eastern subspecies, found mostly in Florida and more sparsely along the Gulf to East Texas, the female resembles the western male, while the male is a brighter pink.
Common Ground-Doves are found throughout most of Central America and across
northern South America. This pair, with the pinker male on the right, was photographed
in Jerusalem Park, a dry forest on the outskirts of Quito, Ecuador.
