Clark's Nutcracker, Nucifraga columbiana
|
|
![]() Clark's Nutcrackers are birds of the western mountains, normally found above 3000 feet; these jay-sized, crow-shaped birds travel in flocks and feed by ripping open pine cones with their strong bills and eating the nuts. So this bird, visiting San Franciso at sea level, provided a big treat to a lot of urban birders in the summer of 2008. |
