Black-throated Gray Warbler
Black-throated Gray Warblers are found during summer in oak and coniferous woodlands, mostly at higher altitudes, throughout western North America west of the Rockies. Their rising buzzy song announces their presence in the Santa Cruz Mountains not far from Silicon Valley, where I live.

The male, above, has a full black throat; the female, see two images below, a variable amount of black on a mostly white throat, with a black band across the top of the breast.
