Andean Lapwing, Vanellus resplendens

Andean Lapwing
Lapwings are large plovers; the Andean Lapwing is a permanent resident of the high tundra (páramo), found in short-grass near water at 12,000 feet and above. During our visit to Antisana Ecological Reserve on the slopes of a volcano in the outskirts of Quito, Ecuador, we saw and photographed a good number of them near the road.
