American
Tree Sparrow, Spizella arboreus
![]() This American Tree Sparrow spent a couple of December days sporadically foraging in a closed area while local birders watched and took pictures from behind a fence. Tree Sparrows nest in the Arctic, and winter across most of the northern US, but are considerable rarities in most of California. |

![]() This picture shows the "stick-pin" or dark spot in the center of the breast, which is one of the distinctive marks of this species, along with the rufous crown and eyeline, and the bicolored bill. |
